A Life Rooted in Stewardship
Malcolm Matheson III was a master horseman and outdoorsman whose generosity, humor, and deep love of Hunt Country left a lasting mark on the community. Following his passing in February 2026, those who knew him fondly recalled the “twinkle in his eye,” his legendary storytelling, mentorship, and the enduring impact he worked to leave behind. To honor his memory, the OCH Conservation Foundation established a scholarship dedicated to carrying forward one of the values Malcolm cared about most: stewardship of the land and community he loved so deeply. In addition to serving more than 20 years as Joint Master of Foxhounds for the Orange County Hounds, Malcolm spent 17 years on the Chairman’s Advisory Council for the Land Trust of Virginia. His work helped preserve the landscapes he cherished while championing responsible stewardship across the region.

Each year, the scholarship provides financial support to a high school or college-aged intern pursuing meaningful work in conservation and environmental stewardship.

2026 Blue Ridge Wildlife Center Internship
Through a meaningful partnership with the Blue Ridge Wildlife Center, the Malcolm Matheson III Memorial Scholarship Fund is proud to support a Summer Wildlife Rehabilitation Internship dedicated to hands-on conservation education and environmental stewardship.
Interns participate directly in wildlife rehabilitation and conservation training
, gaining hands-on experience in patient care, treatment support, wildlife handling, and environmental stewardship.
This opportunity reflects Malcolm’s enduring belief in responsible land management, wildlife preservation, and fostering a deeper connection between young people and the natural world.
The OCH Conservation Foundation is proud to award the Malcolm Matheson III Education Scholarship to Lindsay Davis, one of 14 rehabilitation interns selected for Blue Ridge Wildlife Center’s competitive summer training program.
A recent graduate of Susquehanna University with a degree in Ecology, Lindsay brings hands-on experience in wildlife rehabilitation, avian conservation, freshwater ecology, and animal care.
Her conservation work includes supporting the critically endangered Attwater’s Prairie Chicken recovery program at the Sutton Avian Research Center in Oklahoma, where she assisted with breeding, care, and release efforts as part of a national species recovery initiative.
