A Letter from the President

Welcome to the OCH Conservation Foundation (OCHCF) Website

We hope you will find valuable information, inspiration, and connections here.

It has been an amazing year for the OCH Conservation Foundation. Thanks to the generous support of our donors, and engagement of our community, we are having an impact.

OCHCF creates vibrant community connections to the natural environment that sustains us. Our landowners graciously opening their properties for OCHCF events makes this possible. OCHCF seminars, trail rides, guided nature walks and gator tours allow the public to experience some of the most extraordinary private land in the Piedmont, increasing interest and participation in the preservation of the rural landscape.

Our outreach programming encourages neighboring landowners to collaborate on best management practices. Collectively delaying mowing until mid July has already created thousands of acres of additional nesting habitat for threatened and endangered species of grassland birds. As neighbors preserve wildlife corridors along hedgerows and streams, native wildlife moves more easily between properties to find adequate food and shelter.

OCH Conservation Foundation events help us reconnect with the colors, textures, sounds and rhythms of Nature. Together we slow down, take a collective breath, and savor those things that truly matter. When we inspire others to recognize and value the importance of preserving the beauty and diversity of our countryside, we ensure that 100 years from now there will still be horses and hounds, woodland trails to explore and open space to nurture our souls.

Many thanks to Joan Strahler and Melissa Winchester for helping us launch the website and presence on Facebook! In addition to connecting online, we hope you will bring your neighbors and come to our next event. Together we can make a difference!

With gratitude and optimism,

L. Rae Stone, DVM
